Donut is a ring shaped dessert food with a whole in the center. Its bread like texture comes from the yeast and flour which are the main ingredients used in making donuts. Donuts are made with deep frying method. They might be filled or simply topped with chocolate, vanilla icing, maple syrup, honey and icing sugar. They can easily be found in bakeries and confectionery shops.
Donuts were originated by dutch people in North America in 19th century. At that time they were referred to as olikoek which means ‘oil cake’. In 1847, Hanson Gregory who was just 16 years old, invented ring shaped donuts which became very popular.
With the passage of time the donuts changed many shapes and flavors but the most popular donuts are ring shaped traditional donuts.
